Exercise balls aren't just for yoga, Pilates classes and rehabilitation centers. They're also for our favorite furry friend too!

Rehabilitation balls are essential to rehabilitate slipped disks, to improve proprioception in osteoarthritic dogs and to strengthen hind limbs after surgery and to help prevent injury by keeping your dog strong and fit.

Their wide range of movements enable a personalized training in different directions (forward-backward and sideways).

Exercise balls not only help strengthen the human core, they help strengthen your dog's core too. They also improve ther balance, reaction and control. Some canines like to use exercise balls to play their own version of soccer.

Proprioception is essential to prevent further injuries with your dog. Exercise balls are suitable for canine rehabilitation and physiotherapy.   They also help dogs develop core strength and balance

There are different diameters available in order to suit all breeds and sizes.  The Airex exercise mats are a great addition to these balls to help keep them more stable on the floor.

At the simplest level, balance ball exercises work like this:

The dog stands with front paws on the ball while you hold him steady. Because the ball is flexible and filled with air, it will shift when your dog puts his weight on the ball.
Your dog will try to maintain his balance. In doing so, he is working out several different muscle groups in order to stay up.

Just that simple act of maintaining balance is a workout! There are many exercises your dog can do with a balance ball to help strengthen different parts of the body: hips, back, legs, knees, core, etc. But with a balance ball, the exercises are practically no-impact. Many dogs that are resistant to walking, accept doing exercises with a balance ball (once they get used to it)

Your dog doesn’t need to spend a lot of time on the ball, especially at first. Twenty seconds might be all your dog needs to start out. But as there muscles and balance grow stronger, you can extend your exercise time, change the inflation, or gently jiggle the ball for more challenge.

Balance balls are great for healthy dogs too. Exercise balls help to build muscles, fine-time balance, and improve body-sense, especially for competition dogs.

How to pick the right size ball/ peanut for your dog

For Core Conditioning:

If you plan to use your balance products for core conditioning measure the length of your dog when it is in a neutral standing position from the front legs to the back legs. Your dog should stand on the balance products without a hunched (or roached) back. You can always use a larger balance product for smaller dogs, but not a small product for large dogs. Large dogs may need two or more items to ensure proper form. If you have more than one dog, choose a size that fits your largest dog.

For Natural Stances

Use the below Peanut/ Ball*Approx. Sizes

For Weight Bearing Activities:

Weight bearing activities are activities where the dog is partially standing on the ground and partially on the ball. Choose a ball that is slightly under your dog’s withers (or highest part of the shoulders where the neck meets the back). If you need a ball smaller than the 40 cm, consider purchasing our Donut or decrease the amount of air in the 40 cm. Weight-bearing activities are a great way to introduce dogs to balance activities.
